 Who we are

The Barony of Stargate is a local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), within the Coastal regional subdivision of the Kingdom of Ansteorra. The SCA is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to learning more about the Middle Ages through reenactment. There are SCA chapters worldwide and they hold regular feasts, tournaments, balls and battles.

Ansteorra includes all of Oklahoma and most of Texas (except El Paso). Stargate includes most of greater Houston. Stargate's sub-chapter is the Canton of Westgate, which includes the western and southwestern portions of Houston. Our neighboring Barony of Loch Soilleir includes most of the greater Clear Lake area, including Webster and Pearland. The North Houston area is served by the Shire of Gate's Edge. Wherever you are we're a friendly group of people, so why not visit us all?

News from the Barony

The July Populace Meeting meeting is Monday July 7th. There is NO August Populace Meeting. The next meeting is the second Monday in September (due to Labor Day), September 8th. The regular location for the meeting is Hope (formerly St. Michael's) Episcopal Church, 1613 W 43rd St, in Oak Forest. This site is next door to Oaks Presbyterian, the long time site for Sunday’s European Dance Practice. Park in the row of spaces on Cheshire at the corner of 43rd, by the small white buildings just down from Oaks - go past the nearest building to get to the meeting.

Stargate/Loch Fighter practice (Chivalric and Rapier) is held every Tuesday night from 7-9ish pm at the University of Houston (main campus - Entrance 13, across the street from the stadium). This is a combined chivalric and rapier practice held in conjunction with the Barony of Loch Soilleir. Garb is encouraged.

Stargate Sunday Fighter Practice (Chivalric and Rapier) is held at Memorial Park from 3-5 pm. The location - where N Picnic Lane and S Picnic Lane meet Memorial Drive - has main road access, parking and restrooms . Type in “sca fighter practice” at Google Maps to get custom directions.

Applications are being accepted for the following office:

Youth Rapier Marshal - Serves the Barony by training our young rapier fighters and maintaining the youth rapier loaner equipment.  Contact the Seneschal for more information.

Holding an office is a great way to become involved and meet your fellow Stargaters. Eligible applicants must have enthusiasm and a wish to learn and carry out their new office.
